Trip Summary

Staying at nearby residences you will be able to explore Kelaniya Buddhist Temple one of the most revered shrines in Sri Lanka. Then visit the site of the Negombo fort occupied by the colonists. Travel through Negombo visiting the historical churches, the beautiful beach, the fishery village and the Muthurajawela Marsh, a wetland rich with flora and fauna. Stroll on Negombo beaches and make a visit to the ancient Dutch canal which dates back to 1804.
Next make a visit to the ancient city of Anuradhapura and visit the most revered Bodhi Tree, Ruwanwelisaya, Lovamahapaya, Thuparamaya, Abhayagiri Dagoba, Samadhi Statue and Toluvila statue while exploring the ancient hydrologic marvels of the Kuttam Pokuna

Once in Anuradhapura the ancient city of Polonnaruwa is a must visit. Amaze yourself at the wondrous Parakrama Samudra, the historical shrine Thuparama, the Polonnaruwa Museum, Sathmahal Prasada, Menik Vihara and the Royal Palace.

Then the visit to Sigiriya will undoubtedly fill you with awe as you walk through the rock fortress exploring the

Day 2

Anuradhapura

After an early breakfast at the hotel you will proceed to the Anuradhapura city one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka in the early 380 B.C. The ruins of the ancient city still stand strong capturing the attention of numbers of tourists all round the world. After a filling lunch you shall proceed to Mihintale sightseeing which is the meeting point of the buddhist monk Mahinda and king Devanampiyatissa, considered as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka . You will reach the hotel for dinner and lounge.

Polonnaruwa
Day 4

Polonnaruwa

Following the breakfast at the hotel you may visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa the second ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka. It was chosen to be the central city from 5th century BC for its strategic positioning in the land. The medieval capital was ruled by 3 kings and had a prosperous zenith. Walk through the ruins of dagobas, moonstones, ruins of the palace buildings, and experience the historical city coming to life before your eyes. Experience a Polonnaruwa city tour and make a visit to the Polonnaruwa museum. End the day with dinner and leisure at the hotel.

Sigiriya
Day 6

Sigiriya

After having breakfast at the hotel, you shall reach Sigiriya via Pinnawala. Sigiriya, referred by locals as the eighth wonder of the world is of utmost historical value and amounts to be the most visited tourists’ attraction of Sri Lanka. King Kashyapa built his royal residence using the natural structure of the rock where the entrance was made in the shape of a lion. The term Sigiriya originates from the name “Sinhagiri” meaning “Lion Head”. Next you can pay a visit to the Dambulla cave temple about forty seven miles northwest of Kandy. Its renowned for its Dambulla rock temple, the wall paintings and the four caves.

Day 7

Dambulla

After breakfast at the hotel, you shall make a visit to the Dambulla cave temple to explore the Golden Temple and the Golden Buddha statue. It has the largest painted surface of all Buddhist murals. You will undoubtedly be awestruck when you get to see more than 150 Buddha statues stationed at the temple. After lunch at a restaurant you will get the opportunity to have a walk into a Sri Lankan village in the neighborhood, a much-needed escape from the busy lifestyles and recreate a bond with nature and end the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Kandy
Day 8

Kandy

Following breakfast at the hotel, you shall then visit the temple of tooth in Kandy which houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha which was sent to Sri Lanka in the 14th century AD received during the reign of king Meghavanna. With the rise of the Kandyan kingdom the tooth relic was brought to Kandy. And the current temple of tooth was built by king Weera Parakrama Narendrasinghe in the 17th century. The temple is an art and history lovers’ paradise which fulfills you with amazement and awe. The shrine is covered in elaborate paintings, the royal palace, ceremonial chambers and carvings will walk you through the glorious Sri Lankan heritage. After lunch, you will get the chance to proceed on a city tour and in the latter part of the evening you will get the opportunity to view a breathtaking cultural show inspired by the Kandyan art and the culture.

Day 9

Colombo | Departure

As the last day of the tour you will reach Colombo where on the way you will visit the turtle hatchery where you will be able to experience and gain knowledge on the breeding process of turtles, an animal on the brink of extinction. After a filling lunch at a restaurant, you will get the opportunity to have a city tour and do a spot of shopping before you commence the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the Kingsbury hotel Colombo.
